Memphis Head Coach Tommy West
On playing the third game in 11 days
If I ever get a chance to play three games in 11 games, I will turn it down. I promise you. This team is dead right now, and physically we were about done. I know this we recruited the right kind of people. I'm really, really happy for them right now.
On the emotion of the team
I thought emotionally we were great. We were kind of out there yesterday of course. We were really bad. We spent two hours just talking, but I still didn't think emotionally we were very good. I just happened to run into the Bradfords this morning and got them to have breakfast with us. Mr. Bradford talked to them. How I don't know. He talked to them about Taylor, and he talked to them about tonight. I almost felt a sense of relief when he told them they had to go play. I really think that had an effect on them mentally. Before the game, I wasn't worried about us mentally I was more concerned about us physically that we would run out of gas.
On Will Hudgens as quarterback
I'm disappointed in Will to be honest in the first half. That game could have been a lot worse at halftime. I didn't think he threw the ball very well. I didn't think he was sharp in the first half, but he did make some plays. The thing Will can do is create. He's not as near accurate as Martin. I said all along I'm not afraid to play Will, and I think he'll get better as it goes along.
Marshall Head Coach Mark Snyder
What was the most frustrating aspect of this game?
Well, not getting any points on a couple of trips into the red zone; coming away with no points. That hurt. We found another way to lose, and that hurt.
On the running game
They were giving us the running game; trying to take away our passing game. That got started way too late for me. We needed to get that a lot quicker than we did. Once we got it going, we were able to run the ball, but we need run the ball quicker than we started running the ball when they are playing coverage on our wideouts.
The defense gave you a chance to win at the end.
It really did. We had a couple stops. We've got some fundamental things we've still got to get cleaned up. Still position wise, they are better than we are. They got the ball into their skilled position people's hands. Not only are they more athletic and faster they are also bigger
