Rod Smith Has Successful Surgery

MEMPHIS, TENN. - University of Memphis linebacker/safety Rod Smith had successful surgery this morning after suffering a fracture of the C5 vertebrae this past weekend against Arkansas State.
The successful surgical fusion of the cervical vertebrae was performed Tuesday morning by Kevin Foley, MD, a neurosurgeon with the Semmes-Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute of Memphis.
A junior from Milan, Tenn., Smith has worked at both linebacker and safety this season. He has played in all six games and ranks seventh on the team with 24 tackles and one pass breakup.
