Massie Named to Regional Squad

University of Memphis senior center Chris Massie has been named to Basketball Times' All-Midlands region team.
Massie averaged a double-double this year in helping lead the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven years. He ranked among the top 10 in Conference USA in scoring, rebounding and shooting percentage, averaging 16.7 points and 10.8 rebounds while leading the league with a 60.2 field goal percentage.
For his two-year career, the Arcola, Texas, native had 27 double-doubles, including 16 as a senior.
Massie was an All-Conference USA First Team selection and was named second team all-District 7 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, which released its team back on Feb. 18.
Joining Massie on the All-Midlands squad was Eastern Illinois's Henry Domercant, Texas Tech's Andre Emmett, Kansas's Kirk Hinrich and James Thomas from Texas.
In his first game after becoming eligible he scored 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the Tigers' 77-74 win over seventh-ranked Illinois in his season debut. He was 5-for-6 from the field and had 10 rebounds in the second half against the Illini and was named Conference USA's co-player of the week following the game.
Massie scored a career-high 34 points on 15-of-23 shooting in the Tigers' Conference USA win over Tulane to go along with 16 rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. He closed out his career with a 20-point, 13-rebound effort against Arizona State at the NCAA Tournament.
