Massie Leads Tigers Past Wildcats

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Chris Massie matched his career-high with 23 points and Billy Richmond scored six of his 20 in the final minute as Memphis beat Villanova 72-68 Sunday.
Memphis (9-2) trailed 68-66 with a minute to play when Richmond, who was 12-of-15 from the free throw line, made two to tie it. His 12-foot leaning shot with 12 seconds to play gave Memphis the lead for good, and he clinched the game with two more free throws with 1.3 seconds remaining.
Massie was 9-of-12 from the field and had 11 rebounds.
Allan Ray and Gary Buchanan each had 15 points for the Wildcats, while Randy Foye added 13 and five assists.
Villanova (7-5) battled foul problems, but led by as many as five points in the second half.
Massie hit all four of his shots from the field, and Richmond was 8-of-10 from the free throw line in the final three minutes of the first half as Memphis took a 39-35 lead.
Villanova used a 12-3 run to take a 57-53 lead with 11:33 to play, and led 60-55 with 9:49 left when Ray hit a 3-pointer.
