Junior quarterback Travis Anglin rushed for 69 yards and threw for an additional 60 yards during the Tigers first scrimmage of the fall. It was a small step in Anglin's return from last year's injury shortened season.
The Columbus, Georgia, native led the offensive unit in rushing averaging 6.9 yards per carry on the afternoon. He connected on five of 11 pass attempts but had one pass intercepted.
"I thought Travis did some good things during the scrimmage", said head coach Tommy West. "We were able to move the ball but it seemed like we got tired toward the end and started to make some mistakes. We fumbled the ball a couple of time and we had too many penalties that stopped drives or put us in third and long situations. Those are the kinds of things that we must get corrected".
Sophomore tailback Jeremiah Bonds gained 57 yards on 11 carries and scored the first touchdown of the scrimmage on a one yard run. Running backs Aaron Meadows and quarterback Neil Suber also scored on runs of five and four yards respectively.
Senior receiver Bunkie Perkins caught four passes for 55 yards. Junior Ryan Johnson added three receptions for 46 yards and freshman Darron White caught two passes for 36 yards.
Defensively, outside linebacker Derrick Ballard totaled eight tackles and middle linebacker Shaka Hill tallied six stops. Defensive backs Glenn Sumter and Scott Vogel each had a pass interception and Sumter also recovered a fumble.
The Tigers will watch film and participate in a light practice on Sunday afternoon and will hit the field at 7:30 AM on Monday morning to start their second week of practice.
