Memphis Volleyball Loses to Charlotte, 3-2

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of Memphis Tiger volleyball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Charlotte here Saturday evening. Memphis drops to 20-9 overall, 7-9 in Conference USA, while Charlotte improves to 15-14 overall, 5-11 in C-USA.
The 49ers opened the match with a 30-24 win over Memphis in game one, but the Tigers managed a rally and won the next two games, 30-16 and 30-19. Charlotte took game four, 30-25, forcing the fifth game which the 49ers won, 15-9.
Senior Emily Eichmann led Memphis in hitting with 18 kills and a .278 hitting mark, which was well above Memphis' team hitting mark of .163. Sophomore Brittany Barnett was the only other Tiger to average double figure kills with 15. Barnett also led the Tiger defense with 17 digs. Eichmann also led the squad in blocking with six assisted blocks, while senior Amie Hamilton totaled 47 assists, 12 digs and a match-high four aces.
Courtney Burg led Charlotte in hitting with 22 kills. She also totaled 15 digs and three assisted blocks. Kathleen Ramos and Ashley Ferris followed Burg in hitting with 18 kills and 10 kills, respectively. Ramos also led her squad in digs with 23.
The Tigers will close out their regular season on Sunday at High Point University. Memphis will participate in the C-USA Tournament next week at the University of Houston.
