MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Freshman guard Courtney Trask had 23 points and six assists Wednesday night to lead Memphis to an 84-70 victory over Alabama-Birmingham.
Trask scored 12 points over the final 10 minutes of the first half as Memphis (9-10, 2-4 Conference USA) pulled away for a 14-point halftime lead.
The Tigers maintained the double-digit lead through most of the second half as Alabama-Birmingham (10-7, 3-3) could get no closer than eight points.
Trask was 6-of-7 from the field, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Reserve Shamel Jones scored 15 points for Memphis and Earl Barron added 13.
Eric Holmes led the Blazers with 23 points while Myron Ransom had 19 and David Walker 13.
The Blazers led 20-18 with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half. That was when Trask got untracked as he scored 12 points as the Tigers went on a 22-6 run.
Trask scored the final six points in the run with two 3-pointers to give Memphis a 40-26 lead with just over two minutes left in the half.
Alabama-Birmingham cut the lead to nine early in the second half on two baskets by Holmes, and would trail by eight twice, but could get no closer.
