Tigers Fall Agonizingly Short

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Kilavorus Thompson scored on a tip off a missed jumper with three seconds remaining to give Southern Mississippi a 67-66 victory over Memphis on Saturday.
Southern Miss (11-6, 2-4 Conference USA) overcame from an 11-point deficit in the second half to break its four-game losing streak.
Memphis (9-11, 2-5), which has lost three of its last four games, led 66-65 with 14 seconds left but Kelly Wise missed two free throws to give Southern Miss an opportunity to win.
After the missed free throw, Marcus Terrell dribbled down the court to the left of the lane and missed a shot. Thompson was there to make the basket to win.
Wise led all scorers with 19 points. Courtney Trask finishing with 18 for Memphis. David Wall led Southern Miss with 15 points and Terrell had 14 for the Eagles.
The game was tied at 37 with about 19 minutes remaining when Memphis went on a 13-2 run that began with a layup by Wise. Memphis led 50-39 after Trask's 3-pointer at the 11:45 mark of the second half.
Southern Mississippi battled back after the run. The Golden Eagles scored most of their points in the second half from the free-throw line.
Southern Miss led 36-35 at the half.
The Golden Eagles made just six baskets in the second half, but Memphis committed 20 turnovers and missed free throws late in the game to allow the Golden Eagles to rally.
