MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Reserve center Earl Barron scored 15 points and grabbed 19 rebounds Wednesday night to help Memphis beat Grambling State 98-59.
Memphis (6-6) never trailed and was never threatened, holding 40-plus leads through much of the game's latter stages.
Grambling State (1-12) was hindered by poor ball-handling, committing 31 turnovers against a pressing Memphis defense.
Four players scored in double figures for Memphis. Besides Barron, Marcus Moody and Keiron Shine scored 13 each, while Shyrone Chatman finished with 12.
Moody was the only starter in double figures as Memphis substituted freely after building a 44-20 halftime lead.
Michael Daniels led Grambling State with 13, while Darius Whiteside finished with 10.
Memphis held a 14-8 lead with 12:37 left in the first half, then went on a 22-3 run to take a 36-11 lead with just over five minutes left in the half.
The Tigers continued to build the advantage in the second half, eventually leading by 48 when Shine hit one of two free throws with 5:19 remaining.
Grambling State shot 42 percent from the field for the game, but had a 30 percent performance in the first half, and wasn't shooting much better in the second stanza until outscoring Memphis 11-4 in the final two minutes.
