MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Kelly Wise scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds Tuesday night to lead Memphis to a 76-61 victory over Louisiana-Monroe.
Four Tigers scored in double figures, including reserves Shamel Jones and Earl Barron, who were a combined 12-of-17 from the field.
Following Wise in scoring were Marcus Moody's 16. Barron had 15, and Jones added 10.
Maurice Bell led the Indians (6-3) with 18 points, while Brian Lubeck contributed 16, including 12 in the first half.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Tigers (5-7).
Louisiana-Monroe came out hot, hitting their first five shots and building an early 16-7 lead.
But the Indians failed to score over the next four minutes and turned the ball over six times against the Tiger press. Memphis scored 15 unanswered points in the run for a 22-16 lead.
Memphis would eventually hold a slim 33-32 lead at the half.
Louisiana-Monroe scored the first basket of the second half, but it was the last lead the Indians would hold.
Early in the half, Wise and Jones worked inside to build a 10-point Memphis advantage.
After the Indians got close behind eight straight points by Bell, the Tigers started working inside to Barron.
During a 6 1/2-minute stretch, Barron scored 13 as Memphis extended the lead back to double digits.
The Tigers pressure defense pestered the Indians throughout the game, forcing 23 turnovers, to Memphis' 14. Louisiana-Monroe shot 36.9 percent from the field with Lubeck, the only starter, shooting better than 50 percent on the night.
