MEMPHIS, Tenn - On a cold and windy afternoon, the University of Memphis Men's soccer team lost a bitter decision in overtime to a feisty squad from DePaul by a final score of 4-3. The Blue Demons were a one-man show as Christopher Greer accounted for all four strikes and the Tigers were left shaking their heads.
The first half was all Memphis after a goal from Steven Brooks in the seventh minute off a pass from Justin Stralka . The rest of the half was clearly dominated by the Tigers, and they went into halftime up 1-0.
Then, in the 52nd minute, Greer struck for DePaul in what woud be the first of three straight goals. Finally, Memphis answered Greers challenge when Ryan Schwaigert scored on a penalty kick resulting from a hand ball in the penalty box, narrowing the score to 3-2. With the clock winding down and less than 20 seconds left in regulation time, Sean Fraser tied the game on a goal assisted by Tigers Steven Brooks and Joey Lewis, sending the game into overtime.
The celebration wouldn't last long, as Greer struck yet again for the Blue Demons in the sixth minute of overtime. The sudden death goal ended the game and dropped the Tigers record to 5-8 overall, 2-4 in the conference.
The men's squad has their next home match on Friday, October 29th at Echles Field. They will host Central Arkansas.
