Phillip Haynes

Phillip "Doom" Haynes was a member of the Tiger men's basketball team that put together a glorious run that many Tiger fans fondly recall. From 1980-84, Haynes donned the blue and gray, helping Tiger squads to an 86-34 combined record, including three-consecutive 20-win seasons and advancing to three-straight NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteens.
A three-time All-Metro Conference honoree in 1981, 1983 and 1984, Haynes helped the Tigers to a sweep of the regular season and tournament championships in 1981-82 and 1983-84.
A Memphis native, he ranked No. 11 all-time in school history in scoring with 1,479 points on his induction to the M Club Hall of Fame and shot 50.2 percent from the field and 74.8 percent from the free-throw line in his career.
He averaged double figures all four seasons at Memphis and passed the 1,000 career point mark as a junior.
Following his Memphis career, he was a sixth-round pick of the NBA Los Angeles Clippers in 1984.
