The greatest kicker in Tiger football history, Joe Allison held virtually every Memphis kicking and scoring record at the completion of his career. During the 1992 season he led the nation in field goals made and in field goal percentage and was named the recipient of the first Lou Groza Award which is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate kicker. Allison, a nine-time first team All-American, booted 51 career field goals and made 110-of-112 PATs. His 101 points during the 1992 season was the Memphis single season scoring record and his 263 career points was also a Tiger football record. Allison, who name appears 31 times in the Memphis football record book, made seven of the top ten longest field goals in school. He led the team is scoring for three of his four years as a Tiger and was named to more first team All-America squads than any other Memphis player at that time. The son of former NASCAR driver Bobby Allison and the cousin of the late Davey Allison, also a NASCAR racer, Allison signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL before leaving football to open his own business in Atlanta, Georgia.
