Glenda Delong Davidson was an outstanding tennis, track and basketball athlete in the late 1920s and early 1930s at West Tennessee State Teachers College. A native of Mauldin, Missouri, Ms. Davidson was a stellar athlete at Mauldin High School where she won 10 letters for her athletic abilities. She led her prep team to three consecutive track titles and was named the Best All-Round Athlete in Southeast Missouri in 1928. After graduation from high school, she enrolled in Detroit Teachers College to study physical education and received the award for being named the Best All-Round Female athlete at Detroit Teachers College. After one year, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee, and began working for the Park Commission. She entered WTSTC in the fall of 1930 where she participated in tennis and was a member of the basketball team. She won the tennis singles title and was named the Best All-Round female student at the University. Due to the depression of the ‘30s, Davidson was forced to work to pay for school and became a referee for high school basketball in the Memphis area.
