Dave Anderson is one of the greatest shortstop in Memphis baseball history. He came to the Tigers in the fall of 1979 as a quarterback for the football team but switched sports to baseball in the spring of 1980. During his first season as the Tiger shortstop, Anderson batted .397 with 80 hits, eight home runs, 46 runs batted in and 16 stolen bases. In his junior season of baseball, the Kentucky native batted .395 with 87 hits, 14 home runs, 61 RBIs and 39 stolen bases. He led the team to a 48-11 record, the most wins in an a season in school history. He held the Memphis record for most total bases in a season (153), most stolen bases in a season (39), most RBIs in a season (61), most runs scored in a season (76), most hits in a season (87) and most games played in a season (60). Anderson was twice named to the All-Metro Conference team and was selected to the 1981 College Baseball Coaches All-America team. He was drafted in the first round of the 1981 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and played for the Dodgers for nine years and was a member of the 1988 World Series Championship team. Anderson also played for the San Francisco Giants for two seasons. He is currently a major league baseball coach for the Texas Rangers.
