Bobby Russell, who came to Memphis in 1968 from Hazelhurst, Mississippi, lettered for the Tiger football team for three years under former head coaches Billy J. Murphy and Fred Pancoast. He played defensive line for the Tigers from 1969 through 1972 and helped the team to a Pasadena Bowl victory in 1971 over San Jose State.

Russell compiled 50 tackles and a fumble recovery as a sophomore and totaled 26 tackles before a season ending knee injury in 1971.

He finished his career with 76 tackles and two fumble recoveries. After receiving his B.S. degree, Russell taught math and coached at Arkabutla High School while working toward his Clinical Nuclear Medicine Certificate from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He became a nuclear Medicine Technologist at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and later served in the same capacity at Anderson's in Meridian, Mississippi.

He became the director of Nuclear Medicine at North Mississippi Medical Center from 1982-87 before entering the nuclear medicine sales field, a position he held until his untimely death in 2003.

He and his wife, Laura, had four children, sons Ruston, Alex and Sam and a daughter, Pamela and three grandchildren.
