The University of Memphis women’s tennis team has added Alex Lane to the staff as a volunteer assistant coach beginning with the 2017 spring dual season.
Lane spent the past two seasons as the head tennis coach for both the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Rhodes College.
“I am very excited to announce the addition of Alex Lane to our staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the program,” Head Coach Hayden Perez said. “Alex is a very talented player with an extensive coaching background and we are looking forward to having him around on a daily basis. His work ethic along with his strong desire to learn will be great for the program!”
A graduate of Claremont McKenna College, Lane played professional tennis on the ITF circuit before spending one season at Azuza Pacific University in the NAIA. There, he played three singles and doubles and helped his team to a number three ranking in the NAIA.
The following season, Lane transferred to Claremont McKenna and played three seasons. In 2011, he won the Ojai Valley singles title and made the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles tournament, finishing the year ranked number five in the country and named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year. In 2012, Lane won the west regional ITA and competed in the Small College Nationals in Mobile, finishing third in Division III.
In 2013, Lane spent his fall semester studying abroad in Paris, and returned to help his team to the finals of the NCAA team event where they fell to Williams. He capped his collegiate career with a 73-22 record in singles and a 70-19 mark in doubles.
Following his college career, he served as the Assistant Director of Tennis at the Acadamia Fabiana in Dallas, Texas, for two seasons and also served as a tennis pro at the Pacific Palisades Tennis Center.
At Rhodes, he helped the Lynx men’s team to a 17-18-1 record in two seasons and the women’s team to a 15-25 mark.
