Spring 2014:Leaves Memphis as the program's all-time career wins leader with 85 career wins ... Posted 20 wins for the third time in his collegiate tennis career, finishing his final college season with a mark of 20-13...Was 5-4 at No. 3 singles and 4-4 at No. 4 in the dual season...Was ranked in singles for part of the spring after picking up a win over No. 65 ranked William Kallberg of Ole Miss at the Georgia Tech tournament to start the spring...Was 1-3 against ranked opponents, including a three-set loss to No. 82 Rhys Johnson of Vanderbilt, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5)...Teamed with Ian Chadwell in doubles play starting in January and the tandem won 12 straight doubles matches before suffering an 8-7 (2) loss at No. 3 Baylor...The duo finished the year with a 16-1 mark at No. 3 doubles and a combined record of 19-1...Capped the season on a seven-match winning streak.
Fall 2013: Posted a 9-4 singles record during the fall season ... Won five straight matches including a win over No. 65 Kallberg 6-4, 6-4 (Ole Miss) at the ITA All American in Tulsa, Oklahoma ... Advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Knoxville, TN with wins over Jumonville (Middle Tennesse) 6-3, 6-4 and Hernandez (Lipscomb) 6-1, 6-3 ... Reached the quarterfinals of the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic in Lakewood Ranch, FL with wins over FGCU's Bao 6-3, 7-5 and UNF's Tellez 6-3, 6-4 ... Teamed up with David O'Leary as the No. 54 ranked doubles team finishing with a 2-2 record ... Defeated Andrews/Monaghan (Notre Dame), 8-5 and Covalschi/Hagar (Notre Dame's) 8-7 at the Olympia Fields CC Invitational in Olympia Fields, Illinois ... Also posted a 2-2 record with teammate Jarryd Woog advancing to the round of 32 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in Knoxville, TN with a win over EKU's Maio/Saidi 8-3 ... Grimal and Woog advanced to the quarterfinals of the Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic defeating FGCU's Vaz/Vives 8-6.
Spring 2013: Earned second team All-C-USA honors in singles...Was also named the C-USA Singles Player of the Championship after his win at No. 4 singles clinched Memphis' first-ever C-USA Championship...Finished the year with an 18-12 mark in singles playing, including a 9-7 mark in dual season play...Was 8-6 at No. 4 singles for the Tigers during the spring...Closed the season on a five-match winning streak, including wins in the C-USA semifinal and finals matches...Also won his NCAA singles matches, downing BYU's Andrewy Goryachokov at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0 in the first round and Ole Miss' Stefan Lindmark, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 in the regional finals....Dropped his first set at the NCAA Round of 16, but had battled back and was leading 2-6, 6-3, 4-2 when the match was decided in Pepperdine's favor...Teamed with freshman Lukas Vrnak to post a 6-1 mark in doubles play...The duo closed out the season on a six-match winning streak, starting with the Tigers' win over No. 50 Louisville...The streak was extended to six straight with an 8-5 win over the No. 49 ranked team of Stefan Lindmark and Johan Backstrom of Ole Miss in the regional finals...The Tiger tandem did not finish their doubles match in the NCAA Round of 16 as the doubles point was decided with them up 5-4...Also teamed with David O'Leary in doubles play, posting a mark of 3-4 at No. 3 doubles and with David O'Hare for a 1-0 mark at No. 3 doubles...On the year, Grimal was 13-9 in doubles play...Was 2-4 against nationally-ranked singles players on the season...Picked up his one singles win over a ranked opponent in dual season play against Alen Salisbasic of Drake, 6-3, 6-3.
Fall 2012: Went 8-5 in singles matches ... Defeated Jonny Cornish of Virginia 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 at the UVA Ranked +1 tournament ... Lost to No. 89 ranked Francisco Dias (George Washington) in the quarterfinals ... Downed Alejandro Argente of VCU 6-2, 6-1 to claim the seventh place match in the Orange Draw at the UVA tournament ... Won two consecutive matches at the ITA Men's All-American Championships over #95 nationally-ranked Winston Lin (Columbia) 6-3, 6-4 and #84 Michael Alford (Florida) 6-1, 7-5 ... Defeated Ankit Chopra of Chattanooga 6-2, 6-3 and Sean Bailey of Austin Peay 6-4, 6-3 at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships ... Posted wins over Thomas Weibye (USA) 6-2, 5-1, retired and Mikolaj Borkowski (Poland) 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 at the USA F30 Futures ... Teamed up with Cedric De Zutter in doubles and went 2-3 overall ... Won 8-6 against Vazquez/Argente (VCU) in the quarterfinals and 8-3 against Weigel/Paez (NC State) at the Virginia Invitational.
Spring 2012:All-Conference USA First Team Singles honoree ... Went 16-6 in singles and 17-5 in doubles with partner Leon Nasemann ... At No. 3 singles, defeated No. 43 Vanderbilt's Blake Bazarnik, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-1 ... Beat 49th-ranked UNC-Wilmington's Pedro Mol, 6-0, 6-2 ... Fell to 86th-ranked Roberto Maytin in a three-set thriller in NCAA first round match against No. 25 Baylor ... Teamed with Nasemann to beat No. 22 Ole Miss' Backstrom and Skogeng, 8-6 ... Tandem defeated No. 25 Baylor's Julian Bley and Marko Krickovic, 9-8 (2) to give Memphis the doubles point in the NCAA Championships ... Duo also won doubles matches against opponents from No. 43 Vanderbilt, No. 49 UNC-Wilmington, No. 70 Stetson, No. 64 Rice, No. 63 Tulane, No. 71 Alabama and No. 59 South Alabama.
Fall 2011: Went 8-2 in singles competition ... Opened the fall with a singles-flight championship at the MTSU Dale Short Shootout, earning wins over opponents from Southern Illinois, UAB and MTSU ... Defeated Brandon Fickey of Tennessee 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of prequalifying for the ITA Men's All-American Championships ... Knocked off Ivan Sanchez Gomez (NC State) 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 and Cale Hammond (Duke) 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the qualifying round ... Defeated Vanderbilt's Joe Dorn 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the Ohio Valley Regional Championships ... Went 4-2 while pairing with Leon Nasemann for doubles competition ... Recorded best win against Juan Ramirez and Jorge Varon of East Tennesssee State in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
Spring 2011: Finished his freshman season with a 15-6 record at the No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 singles positions...went 11-4 at the No. 4 spot...had conference wins over #35 Tulsa, #64 SMU, Tulane, Southern Miss, and UAB...teamed with Daniel Shidler for a victory over Tennessee State.
Fall 2010: Recorded an 8-3 singles mark in his first fall season as a Tiger...Fell in his Memphis debut to Ryan Smith (Georgia Tech), 6-4, 6-2, before an eight-match winning streak...Went 4-0 against opponents from Samford, UTC, EKU, and UNC Greensboro in the top flight at the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic on the way to his first draw title...Upended players from 12th-ranked Kentucky, Butler, and Drake before falling to Maurico Ballivian (Drake), 6-1, 7-5, in the finals at the Louisville Winter Invitational...beat Ballivian and his partner Jonathan Hadash, 8-2, to win the doubles draw with John Taylor at the same invite...teamed with Taylor to defeat Drake's Jean Erasmus and Robin Goodman, 8-5, in opening-round doubles action, then beat Goodman in semifinal singles, 6-4, 6-3, at the Louisville Winter Invitational...Went 7-3 overall in doubles.
Prior to Memphis: Has had extensive experience at the world level...Reached the quarter finals of the Spanish National Championships in 2007...Qualified for seven ATP future events and upended 12 ranked ATP players in 2009...Biggest win came over Emilio Rodriguez of Spain who was ranked inside the top 800 in ATP polls.
Personal: Birthday is November 13...Son of Marc Grimal and Carme Ferrer...Has one sister, Mireia, and one brother, Grilleun...Off the court, enjoys going to the movies, concerts and hanging out with friends...Will graduate in May of 2014 with a degree in communications.
