A legend in Little Rock prep circles, the left-handed shooting Reed – nicknamed Deadeye Dexter – arrived after the Tigers reached the NCAA title game.
He averaged 18.4 points as a freshman and 16.5 for his career and still ranks in the Top 10 in scoring with 1,657 points. He is eighth on the list behind Joe Jackson and ahead of Bill Cook, who was a teammate of Reed's in the 1970s.
Reed's 551 points scored during the 1973-74 season rank fifth for most points by a freshman at Memphis.
Reed was the MVP of the 1976 Metro Tournament and was named to the All-Tournament team.
