Cook, a Memphis high school legend from White Station High, got to play as a freshman for the team that reached the 1973 NCAA championship game against UCLA
A four-year starter, Cook saw extended duty as a freshman. He helped lead Memphis State to two NCAA Tournament bids and two NIT appearances during his tenure.
Cook had a career scoring average of 15.1 points per game. He was named to the Metro Conference All-Tournament team in 1976 and received All-America honors that same season.
He averaged 19.1 points as a junior and finished with 1,629 points, good for ninth all time at Memphis.
His 487 points during the 1973-74 season rank ninth for most points by a sophomore in program history.
