A two-year letterwinner on the mound for the Tigers, Duke Williams remains with the program in 2011 for his second season as a graduate manager. A former Tiger hurler, Williams will aid in field maintenance as well as assisting in various practice tasks.
Williams pitched for the Tigers in 2008-09 and served as one of the club's top relievers in '09. Williams transferred to the University of Memphis prior to the 2008 season after a three-year career at Division II power Southern Arkansas. But an arm injury limited him to one inning of work in two outings and forced him to take a redshirt in 2008. The 6-5 Williams came back a better pitcher in 2009 and was an anchor in the resurgence of the Tiger bullpen. In 16 outings, the Memphis native went 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA and two saves. He logged 34 strikeouts in 33.1 innings of relief and holds opponents to a .290 batting average. For his collegiate career, the big right-hander has compiled a 13-10 record with 144 strikeouts. His Tiger career was highlighted by a strong stretch of relief outings in which he has tossed 12.1 scoreless innings over six-games.
