Memphis Wraps Great River Cup with Final-Day Win
Feb 17, 2026 | Women's Golf
MONROE, La. – Memphis women's golf closed out the Great River Cup on Tuesday with a week that offered a different kind of challenge in Monroe, Louisiana.
Facing a match-play format at the par-72, 6,114-yard Windance Country Club, Memphis finished tied for sixth in the eight-team field hosted by Louisiana Monroe and Southern Miss. Unlike the typical stroke-play tournaments on the schedule, the Great River Cup featured head-to-head, hole-by-hole matches, with each team sending out five players to win as many individual matchups as possible.
Memphis went 1-2 across its three matches during the event.
In the opening round, the Tigers squared off with Central Arkansas and dropped a 3.5-1.5 decision. Emily Wilson provided Memphis' lone victory with a 3&1 result, while Claire Swathwood battled to a tie. Claire Todd (1 down), Tilly Garfoot (2 down) and Malia Cottriel (4&2) came up short in their matches.
The second round saw a similar outcome against Arkansas State, with the Red Wolves earning a 3.5-1.5 win. Garfoot secured a 3&2 victory, and Swathwood again fought to a draw. Wilson (4&2), Cottriel (3&1) and Pavarisa Jongpipittaporn (1 down) were edged in their matchups.
Memphis closed the event on a high note, defeating James Madison 3.5-1.5 in the final round. Swathwood led the charge with a 5&4 win, while Wilson (3&1) and Garfoot (1 up) also picked up victories. Jongpipittaporn halved her match and Cottriel (2 down) fell just short.
Outside of the team scoring, Jongpipittaporn competed as an individual in the opening round, dropping a 4&2 decision. Todd handled individual duties in the final two rounds and delivered back-to-back wins by scores of 4&2 and 4&3.
