Tigers Open Spring Season at the Jayhawk Invitational

Lawrence, Kan. – The University of Memphis women's tennis team traveled to Lawrence, Kansas to kick off the spring season with hidden dual matches at the Jayhawk Invitational against Kansas, Kansas State and Iowa State.
On Thursday, Jan. 15, the Tigers took on the Jayhawks to start the tournament. The Tigers started strong with a pair of doubles victories. Natalia Koppova/Alicia Mall won the first doubles match of the spring season, 6-4, while Clemence Thouard/Emma Dvorackova followed up with a 7-5 victory.
In singles, the Tigers also claimed a pair of wins. Alicia Mall won her second match of the day by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Rebecca Frant added a singles win of her own with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
The next day Memphis took on Kansas State. KSU started strong, claiming both doubles matches. In singles, the Tigers fought hard to force three third sets. Alicia Mall stretched her match to a third set after claiming the second set 7-5 before ultimately falling 3-6 in the final set. Clemence Thouard won the first set of her match 6-1 before falling 5-7, 2-6 in the last two. Emma Dvorackova's match went the distance, with Dvorackova eventually dropping the third set tiebreaker 3-7.
On the final day of the tournament, the Tigers took on Iowa State. The two teams split the doubles matches, with the Tiger duo of Alicia Mall/Rebecca Frant picking up a 6-3 victory.
The Tigers played exciting singles matches, including a win from Natalia Koppova, 6-3, 6-2. Alicia Mall and Clemence Thouard both forced third sets but fell short in 10-point tiebreakers.
These matches do not count toward team records but are included in each player's individual results.
Memphis will be back in action Friday, Jan 23rd at Oklahoma.
