No. 14 Tigers Draw with No. 2 Tennessee in Front of Record Crowd

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – No. 14 Memphis women's soccer played to a scoreless draw against No. 2 Tennessee on Thursday night in front of a record crowd of 2,218 at the Track and Soccer Stadium.
Both the Tigers and Lady Vols improve their unbeaten streak to six games to start 2025. Memphis moves to 14-6-2 against the SEC since 2018 thanks to their fourth clean sheet of the year.
"I'm proud of the grit the girls showed hanging in with one of the best teams in the country," said head coach Brooks Monaghan. "The atmosphere was fantastic; I want to thank everybody who came out. It means a lot to see that level of support. The girls aren't celebrating that they tied a great team, and that's what you want to see as a coach."
Much like the Tigers' clash with No. 11 Vanderbilt, the match was evenly balanced and cagey, with neither team wanting to be the one to empower a great chance for the opposition. Each goalkeeper made two saves in the first half, the most crucial coming from Tennessee's Cayden Norris in the 41st minute.
Memphis was awarded a penalty after Flavie Dubé was fouled in the box, and Ashley Henderson placed her spot kick into the bottom left corner, but the sophomore Norris guessed the correct way and dove to plunge it out of harm's way and keep the game scoreless.
Each attack tried to find a breach against two of the nation's best defenses, but no obvious scoring chances ever popped. Norris finished with five saves while Memphis' Abby Kudla recorded three. The Tigers outshot the visitors, 14-10.
Memphis will conclude non-conference play this Sunday, September 7, at home against UT Martin at 7:00 p.m. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
