Memphis Wins Conference Opener at Tulane, 3-1

NEW ORLEANS – Memphis (9-5, 1-0 American) battled it out in four sets against Tulane (8-4, 0-1 American) inside Avron Fogelman Arena on Friday night. This win marks the Tigers' first road victory of the season and their first win in American Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Memphis and Tulane battled it out point-for-point throughout the opening frame with a combined eight kills from Za'Niya Boyles and Zaniah Hoskins. A block from Zoe Rachow and Sabrina Skyers secured the first set for Tulane, 26-24.
The second set mirrored the first with both teams trading points early. Tulane went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-16 lead, but the Tigers responded with kills from Riley McCloskey and Brianna Washington. Washington later brought it to set point, with a Tulane error giving Memphis a second-set victory, 26-24.
The Tigers carried momentum in the third set with an 11-5 run with kills from Boyles, Henderson and Washington. The Green Wave cut into the deficit with a small run of their own to make the score 11-8. Both teams battled back and forth until the Tulane took advantage of attack errors by Memphis to tie the set at 22 points apiece. McCloskey and Hoskins gave the Tigers a two-point advantage, 24-22. A kill from Burks and a Memphis attack error forced the Tigers to go to 26 points secure a 2-1 lead in the match.
In the final set, Memphis jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Tulane responded with a run of its own. With the score tight late, Memphis used key kills from Henderson and Hoskins to finish off the Green Wave, 25-20.

- The win marks Memphis' first win in a conference opener since 2015 when Memphis defeated Cincinnati, 3-2.
- That match was also Memphis' most recent win in a road conference-opening match.
- The win marks the Tigers' first road win of the 2025 season.
- Memphis did secure one win away from Elma Roane Fieldhouse, but that was in a neutral-site match against Texas Southern.
- Two Tigers, Zaniah Hoskins and Sydney Marshall, recorded double-doubles in the win.

- A trio of Tigers reached double figures in digs in the victory.
