Jul 29, 2025 | Rifle
Memphis rifle has added one of collegiate shooting's most decorated athletes to its coaching staff, as head coach Morgan Wilson announced the hiring of Sára Karasová as a graduate assistant on Tuesday.
Karasová, a 2025 graduate of Alaska Fairbanks, brings a wealth of high-level experience to Memphis after a standout collegiate and international career. A 12-time All-American, Karasová helped lead the Nanooks to the 2023 NCAA team title and was a consistent top performer across air rifle and smallbore over four seasons. She also made her mark on the international stage as an ISSF World Cup and European Championships medalist.
"We are thrilled to be welcoming Sara to our program this season," Wilson said. "Her resume truly speaks for itself and we couldn't be more excited to be adding an athlete of her caliber to our coaching staff.
"I have known Sara for almost ten years as we competed internationally at the same time. She will bring years of experience and knowledge that I know will be invaluable and help continue to propel our team's success."
A four-time CRCA All-American in all three disciplines, Karasová left indelible mark on the Nanooks program and the collegiate rifle landscape. The 2023 NCAA Team Champion and 2025 NCAA Elite 90 Co-Winner competed in 51 career matches, consistently performing at the highest level across air rifle, smallbore and aggregate.
A native of Šenov, Czech Republic, Karasová set career personal bests of 599 in air rifle (Dec. 6, 2023), 596 in smallbore (Nov. 14, 2021) and a 1,192 aggregate (Feb. 8, 2025). She tallied over 30 matches with aggregate scores of 1180+, including her record-setting performance at the 2025 PRC Championships that helped clinch the Nanooks' fourth PRC title.
A two-time CRCA Scholastic All-American, Karasová was named the CRCA Rookie of the Year in 2021-22 and went on to earn eight First or Second Team All-America honors in smallbore and air rifle. Her consistency and poise in competition made her a cornerstone of Alaska's success, culminating in four consecutive seasons of national contention and a place among the sport's best.
On the international stage, Karasová recently captured her first senior ISSF World Cup medal with a bronze in the Women's 50m Rifle Three Positions event at the 2025 World Cup in Lima in April. She also earned gold at the 2024 European Championships, continuing a steady progression from her decorated junior career, which included a silver medal in the 50m Rifle Prone Women Junior event at the 2019 ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl.
"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the University of Memphis rifle team as a graduate assistant," Karasová said. "Memphis was one of the programs I considered as an athlete, so it's special to now be part of the team in a different role. I'm excited to learn from Coach Wilson and contribute to the Tigers by sharing what I've learned from my time at UAF and on the Czech national team."
