Jun 12, 2025 | General
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In a move to strengthen Memphis Athletics' leadership in facilities and operations, Senior Vice President and Director of Athletics Ed Scott, Ph.D., has named Tabrian Arnold as Associate Athletic Director for Capital Projects and Operations. Arnold began his new role this week as part of the senior staff.
"Tabrian was the best candidate on the board," Senior Deputy Athletics Director Tim Duncan said. "He has the administrative skills, the temperament, the experience and the leadership needed to head our operations, facilities and grounds teams.
"He will also work very closely with me on our capital projects efforts by focusing on the Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium, Liza Wellford Fletcher Stadium and Football Academic Building projects. We are fortunate to have a national leader like Tabrian overseeing these areas."
Arnold will lead all aspects of facility projects relating to athletics including, but not limited to, organizing the request for proposal or request for quote process, as well as managing the budget and approval processes. He will also oversee design and construction vendors and approval of all interior and exterior design elements. Arnold's responsibilities will also include the supervision of facilities and operations staff, including coordination of upcoming renovation and construction projects.
Arnold served as the Director of Facility Operations for five years at the University of Washington, where he was responsible for the operation and supervision of maintenance, grounds, painters and custodians, along with facilities, enhancements and budgetary resources. He led planning for capital improvements and project development while also overseeing budgetary processes. Additionally, Arnold developed preventative maintenance plans for facilities and grounds, established safety procedures and standards and served on the sustainability committee.
"I am honored to join the University of Memphis as Associate Director of Capital Projects and Operations," Arnold said. "The University's commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience is evident in the transformative renovations underway at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium. I'm thrilled to join an athletic department that's clearly committed to enhancing the fan experience and elevating our game day environment. The focus on creating a more fan-centric atmosphere reflects a bold vision for the future of Memphis Athletics. I'm honored to help bring that vision to life through innovative facilities and operations.
"These projects aim to elevate the game-day atmosphere and demonstrate the University support in collegiate athletics. I extend my sincere gratitude to Dr. Ed Scott, Tim Duncan, Cooper Jones and the entire hiring committee for their trust and support."
Prior to working at Washington, Arnold spent six years at his alma mater, Howard University, located in Washington, D.C. Just under five years of his tenure with the Bison were spent as the Assistant Director of Operations for Facilities, Operations and Events. In that role, he created data analysis for the implementation of directives and policies while also being responsible for processing and retention of all contracts, agreements and MOU's. Arnold also played a pivotal role in securing the largest endowment in HBCU history for Howard's golf program, collaborating with notable partners such as Steph Curry, Under Armour, and Callaway Golf.
In addition to his operational responsibilities, Arnold coordinated numerous facets of game day operations, including audio-visual production, halftime entertainment, in-venue marketing, video and display board services, and the distribution of materials related to credentialed ticketing and parking.
Arnold's first year at Howard was spent as a graduate assistant in strength and conditioning and game day operations, while also serving as an inside linebacker coach for the Howard football program finishing his playing career as a team captain of the Bison.
Arnold holds an associate's degree in kinesiology from Georgia Military College, where he achieved the rank of Regimental Command Sergeant Major. He has earned both a bachelor's degree in health, human performance and leisure, and a master's degree in administration policy and leadership from Howard University.
