MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Athletic Department and 901Women will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day with its women's programs and staff members Feb. 1-7.
Staff members and supporters of the Memphis Athletic department will be recognized during the men's basketball game on Feb. 1 against Tulane sponsored by Conway Services where the department will have a conference award recognition for the 901Womenboard, donors and staff members.
"National Girls and Women in Sports Day is both a celebration and a commitment. At Memphis, we honor the women who paved the way, invest in the leaders shaping today, and create pathways for the girls who will define the future of sports," Associate Athletic Director, Annual Fund & Women's Initiatives Kela Jones said. "Through 901Women and the Power Summit, we are affirming that women's athletics is not a moment; it is a movement rooted in excellence, opportunity, and belonging."
The celebration continues Wednesday, February 4 for National Girls and Women in Sports Day when 901Women hosts the inaugural Power Summit at Old Dominick Distillery. A dynamic panel discussion, Pathways, Power and Possibility: Women Shaping Sports in Memphis, will highlight leaders from professional and collegiate athletics while offering insight into career pathways, leadership and the future of women in sports.
The week wraps up on Saturday, Feb. 7 for 901Women Day at the Memphis Tiger women's basketball game against Rice sponsored by FedEx. Campus School will be back inside Elma Roane Fieldhouse to join the Tiger women's basketball team for starting lineups while Memphis women's athletic programs will be recognized during the game.
The 901Women initiative was established to honor 50 years of competitive and academic excellence within our women's sports programs since the passage of Title IX in 1972. In addition, this initiative intends to inspire and generate philanthropic support for the enhancement of athletic, academic and personal experiences for current and future female student-athletes at the University of Memphis.
Tickets for the women's game on February 7th start at $3 while combo tickets to both the women's and men's game (Club Level) are $20. All ticket specials can be found at THIS LINK.
