Apr 25, 2025 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis men's basketball has signed transfer Quante Berry, head coach Penny Hardaway announced Friday afternoon.
The dynamic 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard from Cleveland, Tennessee, joins the Tigers for the 2025-26 campaign after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Temple University.
In the 2024–25 season, Berry appeared in 28 games for the Owls, starting 21, and averaged 10.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game as a redshirt sophomore. He shot 46.3 percent from the field, 33.8 percent from three-point range, and 69.7 percent from the free throw line. Notably, he scored a career-high 24 points in a game against North Texas, which had the nation's third-ranked scoring defense (59.9 points allowed per game).
In two games against Memphis this past season, Berry played two of his better games of the season, averaging 17.5 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals. He shot 56.0 percent overall (14-of-25) and connected on 3-of-7 from deep. He finished the year with 16 games of 10 or more points.
Berry took a big leap from his freshman to sophomore year, upping his playing time by over 20 minutes per game and his scoring output from 2.6 to 10.3.
Berry originally redshirted his freshman year at Providence (2022–23) before transferring to Temple.
In high school, he was ranked among the top-50 point guards in the nation by 247Sports and scored over 1,000 career points at Winston-Salem Christian School in North Carolina, where he averaged 16 points and six rebounds per game as a senior.
Berry becomes the third player Hardaway has signed to the 2025 recruiting class, joining Daniel Vieira-Tuck and Felipe Patino.
