Schmidt Tabbed AAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Memphis thrower Sascha Salesius Schmidt was named the American Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Schmidt, a junior thrower from Borsdorf, Germany, won his fourth shot put event of the year behind an 18.67-meter throw at the Don McGarey Invitational on March 29. It was the furthest in the conference this outdoor season and the 10th-furthest in Division I. He also placed fourth in the discus throw.
Schmidt has placed in the top five of all seven shot put events he has competed in this season. It's the second consecutive week a Memphis thrower has received the weekly honor, with Jazmyn James and Gabriel Koletsi winning Women's and Men's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively, last Tuesday.
The Tigers will be competing on April 4 and 5 at the Joe Walker Invitational in Oxford, Mississippi, and the Joey Haines Invitational in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
