Feb 14, 2025 | Men's Basketball
ATLANTA – University of Memphis sophomore guard PJ Haggerty is one of 30 players named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Men's Player of the Year Midseason Team, the Atlanta Tipoff Club and Naismith Awards announced Friday. The Naismith Trophy is annually awarded to the nation's top men's and women's college basketball players.
Haggerty is the only American Athletic Conference representative on the FULL LIST. He has also earned spots on nearly every other national midseason list, including the Wooden Award, the Jerry West Award and the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
The Crosby, Texas product ranks fourth in Division I in scoring (21.5) and fifth in free throws made (151). He is fifth in the AAC with a 50.4 field goal percentage.
He is the only player in Division I that has played at least 12 games and is averaging 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Haggerty has been even better in league play in terms of percentages. In 12 AAC contests, he's connecting at 53.5 percent overall (97-172) and a team-high 47.2 percent from three (17-36).
The 6-foot-3 guard leads the conference with 17 games of 20+ points and is coming off 18 points, six rebounds and four assists Thursday night in Memphis' 80-65 road win at South Florida.
Haggerty and the No. 14 Tigers return to the court Sunday when they visit Wichita State for an 11 a.m. tip on ESPN.
