IRVING, Texas – University of Memphis senior guard Zach Davis has been named the American Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Davis delivered his most complete stretch of the season in guiding the Tigers to a 2-0 week with dominant two-way performances in wins over New Orleans and RV/RV Baylor. The Orangeburg, South Carolina product averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds, while shooting 43.5% from the field, 37.5% from three-point range and 83.3% at the free throw line.
He opened the week with an efficient outing against New Orleans, posting 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds, including three on the offensive glass, in just 23 minutes off the bench.
Davis then shined on a national stage Saturday on CBS, recording the first double-double of his career with 23 points and 13 rebounds, both career highs, in the Tigers' 78-71 win over Baylor. He added two steals and finished 7-of-14 from the field and 8-of-10 at the stripe, marking his third career 20-point performance.
Across the two-game stretch, Davis totaled 22 rebounds, led Memphis in overall efficiency, and extended his streak of scoring in double figures to four of the last five contests. His work on the boards was instrumental in helping Memphis post a +11.5 rebounding margin for the week.
Davis becomes the latest Tiger to earn weekly honors from the American, joining honorable mention nods from Quante Berry and Julius Thedford.
