MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis football great and M Club Hall of Famer Isaac Bruce will be the "Release the Tigers" honoree presented by Dillard Door & Entrance Control at this Saturday's Memphis football game against South Florida at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium at 11 a.m.
Bruce joined the Memphis tigers in 1992 where he was the team's second leading receiver that season with 39 receptions for 532 yards and five touchdowns.
"Welcoming back Memphis football legend Isaac Bruce to 'Release the Tigers' is an incredible way to celebrate Homecoming," University of Memphis Senior Vice President and Director of Athletics, Ed Scott, Ph.D. said. "An NFL Hall of Famer, Super Bowl champion and four-time Pro Bowler, Isaac's accomplishments speak for themselves. We are truly honored to have him back in Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium to energize the best fans in the country!"
During the 1993 campaign, Bruce caught the attention of professional scouts when he opened the season with seven catches for 112 reception yards and two scores against Mississippi State. He added in 147 yards against East Carolina, 109 against Arkansas State and 108 in the game against Tulsa. In all, Bruce finished the season with a school-record 74 catches for 1,054 yards and 10 touchdowns. Bruce is still in the Memphis record books for most pass receptions in a single season (T4th), most touchdown receptions for a single season (7th), most consecutive games with a reception (T12th) and most career receiving yards (16th).
Bruce went on to get drafted in the second round of the 1994 draft to the St. Louis Rams. He ended his career nearly 16 seasons later as the NFL's second all-time leading receiver with 1,024 receptions for 15,208 yards and 91 touchdowns.
In October of 2003, the University of Memphis officially retired Bruce's jersey in a ceremony held at then-named Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. He was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in 2011.
