Tigers Sweep Blazers for First Conference Win of Season

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis Volleyball team bounced back with a victory over the Blazers of UAB on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers (7-7) grabbed a 3-0 sweep against the UAB Blazers (5-8) with freshman Tiffany Snook leading the team with a game-high 11 kills. Hannah Jones followed behind with eight while Clara Bednarek and Tabytha Toelke both tallied seven kills.
Defensively, Memphis totaled 68 digs. Abigail Schlueter had a game-high of 19 digs, Toelke picked up 16 and Jordan Heatherly recorded 14 digs.
Memphis took control of the opening set with a 5-0 run to go up 13-11. They extended their lead with an 8-2 run with kills from Snook, Jones, and Jasmyn Tate, putting them ahead by as much as eight. The Tigers closed the set with a huge kill from Bednarek taking the first set 25-20.
The Tigers carried their momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early 7-3 lead. Mackenzie Leach extended Memphis' lead with four consecutive service aces to push ahead 13-5. The Tigers held the lead throughout the rest of the set winning 25-17.
Memphis took the lead early again in the third set going up 6-2. The Tigers dominated this set, scoring 17 kills as a team. Memphis finished the set on a dominating 8-2 run to win the third 25-13.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will be on the road next weekend playing at Florida Atlantic on Friday night and South Florida on Sunday afternoon. Both matches will be available to stream on ESPN+.
