Pair of Tigers Named to Preseason Biletnikoff Award Watchlist
Aug 07, 2024 | Football
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis wide receivers Roc Taylor and Demeer Blankumsee were each named to the 2024 Preseason Biletnikoff Award watch list Wednesday morning, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced.
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
Taylor, a senior out of Oxford, Alabama, led the Tigers in 2023 with 69 receptions for 1,083 yards and four touchdowns. He ranked 20th in the NCAA in receiving yards and 23rd in receiving yards per game while becoming just the fifth 1,000-yard receiver in Memphis football history.
A 2023 Second Team All-AAC honoree, Taylor was one of just nine Tigers to start all 13 games on the 10-win squad – going over 100 yards receiving six times. Taylor was named Preseason First Team All-AAC by Phil Steele and was picked as The American's Preseason Wide Receiver of the Year by College Football Network earlier this week.
Blankumsee nearly went over the 1,000-yard mark himself in 2023, hauling in 53 passes for 901 yards and a team-best seven touchdowns. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native ranked eighth in the conference in receiving yards per game (69.3) last season to earn Phil Steele Third Team All-AAC honors.
The redshirt senior receiver started 11 games and appeared in all 13 for the 10-win 2023 Tigers while logging a trio of 100-yard receiving games. Blankumsee was tabbed Preseason Second Team All-AAC by Phil Steele entering this season.
The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 600 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted.
Memphis football fans can see the Tigers at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in the team's season opener on Saturday, Aug. 31. Single-game tickets for the 2024 season can be found at THIS LINK.
