Tigers Pick Up George Mason Transfer Baraka Okojie
Jun 07, 2024 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis men's basketball head coach Penny Hardaway officially announced Friday the addition of a fifth transfer, Baraka Okojie, to the 2024-25 Tigers.
The 6-foot-3 guard played last season at George Mason where he was one of only three players to see action in all 32 games (10 starts). He joins the Tigers with three years of eligibility remaining.
Season tickets to see the Tigers are available for purchase now at THIS LINK or by calling the Memphis Ticket Office at (901) 678-2331.
Okojie averaged 8.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 24.5 minutes per game as a freshman for the Patriots, earning him a spot on the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team. He shot 46.8 percent from the field (74-of-158) and connected on 72.8 percent of his free throw attempts (99-of-136).
The Brampton, Ontario native will provide Hardaway's program a potential defensive stalwart as he averaged 1.4 steals per game, while 74 of his 91 rebounds were on the defensive end.
Okojie showcased an elite ability to get to the free throw line, finishing fifth in the nation in free throw rate (82.9%) while drawing an average of five fouls per game.
Okojie's play got stronger at the end of the season when he assumed primary starting responsibilities. He started the final nine games, including wins over both Dayton and Richmond, and averaged 10.8 points with 4.0 assists per game during that span.
He finished the year with nine games of 10 or more points and scored a career high 22 with six boards and three assists in the season finale against Saint Joseph's.
Originally a three-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, Okojie reclassified to the 2023 class last summer before signing with George Mason.
