Tigers Drop Top-50 Match in Road Finale at SMU

DALLAS – For just the second time this season, the No. 27 Memphis men's tennis failed to earn a point as the Tigers fell 4-0 Sunday afternoon to No. 44 SMU at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas.
The defeat dropped Memphis to 15-5 overall on the year and 6-2 on the road. The Mustangs improved to 15-7 overall and 12-1 at home.
SMU got the match started with a 6-2 victory in doubles on court two and then secured the opening point from the top line as No. 52 Adam Neff and Huntley Allen edged out No. 35 Pablo Alemany and Charlie Barry 7-6(2).
Pau Fanlo and Juan Zabala were all tied up at 6-6 on court three when the point was clinched.
In singles action, the Mustangs doubled their lead in a top-70 battle on court one as No. 33 Trevor Svajda swept No. 68 Pablo Alemany 6-0, 6-2.
They then took a 6-2, 6-2 win at the bottom of the lineup on court six before No. 119 Adam Neff clinched the victory on court two with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 decision over Conor Gannon.
Maxime Dubouch stretched his match to a third set (3-6, 6-4, 3-1) and Pau Fanlo was up 7-5, 4-3 when the match was called. Moritz Kudernatsch was about to get a third set started from his fifth position after going 4-6, 6-2 in the first two frames.
UP NEXT
The Tigers conclude their regular season next Friday (April 12) with a 5 p.m. match against Tulane on Senior Day at Leftwich Tennis Center.
