Zych’s School Records Highlight Memphis’ Effort at NCAA Qualifier

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 13-ranked University of Memphis rifle team shot well at its NCAA Qualifier on Saturday in Oxford, Miss., totaling a 2334 in smallbore, 2375 in air rifle and an aggregate of 4709. Sophomore Gabriela Zych was the highlight of the match, shooting school records of 593 in smallbore and 1189 in aggregate.

"I'm really proud of how the team shot today," head coach Morgan Phillips said. "We've been very consistent over our last few matches and I'm happy that we were able to wrap up our regular season with another consistent performance. One standout performance from today was from Gabriela. She set both the program smallbore and aggregate records. This is a high-pressure match, so it makes it even more impressive that she set those records here. We are looking forward to watching the NCAA selection show on Monday!"

The team shot with No. 7 Ole Miss but did not compete against them.

KEY MOMENTS
• Zych was once again terrific for the Tigers, finishing atop the individual standings with her school-record aggregate score of 1189.
• The sophomore won smallbore with her program-record effort of 593 and also won air rifle with a 596.
• Angeline Henry took fourth in the individual standings with an aggregate of 1178. Henry took second in air rifle with a mark of 594 and sixth in smallbore with a total of 584.
• Freshman Kenlee Ewton was 10^th in the individual standings with an aggregate score of 1168. Ewton was eighth in air rifle with a 594 and 11^th in smallbore with a 584.
