Tigers Wrap Regular Season Indoors, Turn Focus to AAC Championships

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The University of Memphis track and field team was back in action Friday afternoon, competing at the Redhawks Open at the SEMO Rec Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in its final regular-season indoor meet before the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
"We had some good results and worked out a few kinks," head coach Kevin Robinson said. "Now, it's time to shift our focus to getting recovered and ready for the AAC Championships."
NOTABLES
• Riley Simmons had a strong performance Friday, throwing a lifetime-best (14.37m / 47'1.75") in the shot put to finish third. She also finished runner up in the weight throw with a season-best 17.48-meter throw (57'4.25").
• Poorna Raorane finished runner up in the shot put with a 14.65-meter throw (48'0.75").
• Sascha Salesius Schmidt finished runner up in the men's shot put (17.95m / 58'10.75"), and teammate Iason Machairas threw a season-best 17.55 meters (57'7") to finish third. Will Dibo threw a season-best 16.80 meters (55'1.5") to finish fourth.
• Oliver Tomann finished fifth in the weight throw (17.29m / 56'8.75"). Tristan Robinson threw a personal-best mark of 15.78 meters (51'9.25").
• Issac Sawyer won the men's 55 meters in 6.79 and finished runner up in the long jump (6.90m / 22'7.75").
• Benjamin Smith won the men's pole vault (3.80m / 12'5.5") and the men's 55-meter hurdles (9.73).

• The Tigers will head to Birmingham, Alabama to compete at the AAC Indoor Championships on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 at The CrossPlex.
