Dec 18, 2024 | Football
The Tigers end the year 11-2 overall, finishing with the second-most wins in a season in program history and notching 11-plus victories for just the second time in 109 seasons of Tiger Football. Ryan Silverfield is the only head coach in program history with five bowl titles.
Tiger quarterback Seth Henigan was named the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Offensive MVP after completing 18-of-26 passes for 294 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 61 yards on eight carries against the Mountaineers (6-7) to combine for 355 total yards in his 50th and final start in a Memphis uniform.
In the win, Henigan eclipsed 14,000 career passing yards, moving him to No. 13 in NCAA history to conclude his career with 14,266 yards. In addition, Henigan threw the 104th touchdown pass of his career and finishes tied with Houston's Clayton Tune for The American's career record.
Wide receiver Demeer Blankumsee led the Tigers with 120 yards and a touchdown on four catches, while Roc Taylor hauled in five balls for 116 yards.
As a team, the Tigers rushed for 180 yards and three scores on 30 carries. Mario Anderson Jr. paced the backfield with 70 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Greg Desrosiers Jr. toted the rock just twice but made them count with a 48-yard touchdown scamper. Brandon Thomas also scored in the fourth quarter to give him 35 for his Memphis career (top five all time).
Linebacker Chandler Martin was all over the field Tuesday night, racking up a Memphis career-high 17 tackles, including seven solo stops, tying Shareef White's record for most total tackles in Memphis bowl history (17 vs. Auburn in 2015) while earning Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Defensive MVP. Elijah Herring recorded a season high-tying 10 tackles and grabbed an interception in the final seconds to help seal the win for Memphis.
In the 40th start of his Memphis career, senior defensive back Greg Rubin was in on eight stops (three solo) to go along with a tackle for loss and a forced fumble that Mond Cole recovered. Defensive back Kobee Minor totaled seven stops and a pass breakup.
The Tigers are 21-5 over the past two seasons – the most wins in a two-year span in Memphis history.
Dating back to the win over UAB last year, Memphis has forced at least one turnover in 16 of its last 20 games. Over that stretch, the Tigers have created 37 takeaways (19 INT, 18 FR).
The Tigers have scored 20 or more points in 40-consecutive games – the longest active streak in the nation – dating back to a 33-28 win over Tulane on Nov. 27, 2021.
