Marcy Tabbed Perfect Game Preseason All-AAC

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis outfielder Will Marcy was named to the Perfect Game Preseason All-Conference team, the publication announced this week.
Marcy, a transfer from NC State and Raleigh, N.C., native is entering his first season for the Tigers after batting .301 in 45 games (33 starts) for the Wolfpack a season ago. The 6-foot-3 outfielder slugged .500 and raked a dozen doubles while logging 14 multi-hit games in 2023.
In addition to the all-conference nod, Marcy was rated as the No. 8 MLB Draft Prospect in the American Athletic Conference for the 2024 draft by Perfect Game.
Joining Marcy on the 2024 MLB Draft prospect list (No. 20) was redshirt-sophomore southpaw Luke Ellis. A native of Somerville, Tenn., Ellis was named to the AAC All-Freshman team after a breakout season in 2023 where he went 3-3 on the mound in 25 appearances (five starts), striking out 39 over 42.2 innings.
Perfect Game went on to say, "Memphis brings in a strong group of transfers and newcomers who will be looked upon to play key roles … The Tigers will have a good chance to be competitive in year one under Matt Riser and the future looks optimistic." The full release can be accessed here.
First-year head coach Matt Riser will be aiming to build on the program's best season since 2017 after finishing the year with a record of 29-28 in 2023.
The Tigers' 2024 season kicks off Feb. 16-18 with a three-game series at Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Alabama. Memphis' home-opener is slated for Feb. 24 at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field at 4 p.m. vs. Central Arkansas.
