MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger men's soccer team will look to get back in the win column when they travel to the Sunshine State to match-up with Florida Atlantic this Friday evening.
"This is a great opportunity for us," said head men's soccer coach Richard Mulrooney. "We know where we sit in the standings and are in a good spot to get out first AAC win of the season. We've worked a lot this week on things on and off the field while trying to find consistency for a full 90 minutes that I think will give us a good chance to get a win."
Memphis (4-2-2, 0-2-0 AAC) is coming off their second AAC loss of the season after suffering the 2-1 defeat against FIU last week. Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos would net his seventh goal of the season in the 7' of the match to give the Tigers the 1-0 lead. But the Panther offense would get two goals in four minutes late in the match to take the win.
For the season, Rodrigues dos Santos leads the team the conference with seven goals this season – four of them serving as the game-winning goal. Between the pipes, Colin Welsh has been the Tiger's go-to with 20 saves and one solo shutout this season.
Florida Atlantic (1-4-3, 0-2 AAC) are currently on a three-game losing skid that was extended on Sunday evening when they fell 3-0 to Charlotte. The Owls would get outshot 22-9 by the 49er's while Rotem Fadida made six stops during the match.
Last season when the two teams met, Memphis came away with the 2-0 win after penalty kick goal in the 70' and an Eric Primo strike in the 75' of play.
