#20/23 Tigers Open Season with Shutout Over Southern

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In their home opener of the 2023 season, the Memphis Tigers came out with a bang securing the 6-0 win over Southern University.
Following tonight's match, Memphis moves to 1-0 for the season.

- Anne-Valerie Seto netted the Tigers first goal of the season off a corner kick from Jocelyn Alonzo in the 3' to give Memphis the early lead.
- Less than two minutes later, Saorla Miller would find the back of the net for a quick 2-0 Tiger lead.
- Momo Nakao would get Memphis' final goal of the opening half in the 22' on a solo shot off a corner kick. The Tigers would take the 3-0 lead into the half.
- After Mya Jones netted a PK in the 51', Izzy Monck would find the feet of Miller for her second goal of the night to make it a 5-0 game.
- Freshman Sarah Granno would net the Tigers final goal of the night after Yui Suetsugu find her deep in the box for the 6-0 final.
NOTABLES
- Five different players scored for Memphis tonight while another four recorded assists.
- Kaylie Bierman gets credited with the win after going 45 minutes in net with one save. Lorelei Logan would help for the combined shutout after playing 45 minutes with no shots faced.
- The Tiger defense held the Lady Jaguars to just one shot the entire night and allowed them no corner kicks.

- Memphis will finish their opening weekend on Sunday night when they host Ole Miss at the Track & Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. with coverage available on ESPN+.
