Tigers Fall 4-3 in AAC Semifinal

ORLANDO – No. 1 Memphis men's tennis fell 4-3 to No. 4 SMU in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference championship Saturday afternoon in Orlando, Florida.
The Tigers (13-7) took the doubles point, but were unable to take advantage early in singles action.
Pablo Alemany and Oscar Cutting gave Memphis the early momentum with a 6-3 win on court three, before Jeremy Taylor and David Stevenson followed it up with a 6-4 victory at the top spot to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage.
Play moved to singles where the Mustangs quickly put the Tigers in deep hole with three-straight victories on courts one, four and three.
Oscar Cutting gave Memphis its second point of the day at the No. 2 position with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Facing a must-win situation, Pau Fanlo fought back on court six after dropping his first game to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and even the match at 3-3.
With the match coming down to Jeremy Taylor on court five, the senior lost the first set, but battled back to send it to a third game before SMU ultimately prevailed, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Memphis will return home to await an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
