Season Ends for Tigers with 4-1 Loss in NCAA Tournament

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Memphis Tiger men's tennis team saw its season end with a 4-1 loss to No. 22 Wake Forest in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship Saturday in Knoxville, Tennessee.
No. 36 Memphis concludes its campaign with a 13-8 record. The Tigers were competing in their ninth NCAA Tournament in the last 11 seasons.
Wake Forest (26-11) didn't waste any time grabbing the doubles point, winning 6-2 on the first and third courts to go in front.
The Demon Deacons doubled their lead from the top spot when No. 4 Melios Efstathiou swept No. 68 Pablo Alemany, 6-2, 6-3.
Conor Gannon then put the Tigers on the board at the third position behind a 6-3, 6-3 decision to give him his ninth singles victory of the year.
Wake Forest came from behind on court five to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 and put it on the brink of victory before Filippo Moroni knocked off Oscar Cutting 6-4, 7-5 from the second position to get the win.
