ORLANDO – The sixth-seeded Memphis women's tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 2 Central Florida Friday evening, ending its American Athletic Conference championship run.

The Tigers close the season at 10-13 overall after winning nine of their final 13 matches to wrap up the season.

"I am very proud of this team and how we finished the year," head coach Hayden Perez said. "We may not have repeated as conference champions, but this team fought like crazy down the stretch and I loved coaching this group!

"I want to give a big thanks to all of our supporters. And I especially want to give a thanks to Ryan Haymond for all he does for myself and this program!"

UCF (11-10) quickly grabbed the first point of the match with a pair of 6-0 wins on courts one and three. Camila Soares and Monique Woog were leading their respective match 4-2 at the time the point was clinched.

The Knights carried that momentum into singles and took the first three points in straight sets to get the victory.

Soares was leading at the No. 1 position, 6-1, 5-4 and Aran Teixido Garcia was in front on court two in the second set, 7-6, 1-2.

At the fourth spot, Emily Meyer (5-7, 6-1) was heading to a third game when the match was called.

The loss unfortunately ends the season for the Tigers.
