Williams Earns Third AAC Player of the Week Award

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following back-to-back wins over Wichita State and Cincinnati, DeAndre Williams was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the third time this season, announced Monday by the league office.
It's the ninth AAC Player of the Week honor for the Tigers this season.
Williams posted 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 3.0 blocks and 2.5 assists in helping Memphis to its 22nd win overall and 11th conference victory.
He piled up 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks in an 83-78 road victory over the Shockers Thursday. He shot 6-of-10 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
On Sunday against the Bearcats, the fifth-year forward dropped 21 points, seven boards, three blocks and matched his career high with five steals to lead Memphis in a 76-73 win. He was 10-of-18 shooting in 32 minutes.
The Houston, Texas native is the only AAC player to rank inside the league's top 10 in points (17.5 – 6th) and rebounding (7.9 – 4th).
He also ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage (54.2 – 6th), blocks (1.0 – 9th) and steals (1.4 – 11th).
Memphis (22-7, 12-4 AAC) is back in action Thursday night at SMU (8 p.m.) on ESPN2 before coming home to host No. 1 Houston Sunday at 11 a.m. on CBS to close out the regular season.
