Memphis Rifle Racks Up All-GARC Honors

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 10-ranked University of Memphis rifle team racked up the All-Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) honors on Friday, the league office announced.
Tigers head coach Morgan Phillips was named the GARC Coach of the Year, Angeline Henry was named Second-Team All-GARC in air rifle and honorable mention All-GARC in both smallbore and combined, Gabriela Zych was named honorable-mention All-GARC in air rifle and Sophia Cruz was Memphis' honoree as Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Phillips has guided the Tigers to a great season, earning the ranking as high as No. 10 this year. Memphis has posted victories over No. 9 Army, No. 14 Jacksonville State, No. 12 NC State and No. 19 UT Martin. The team has also set the school records in air rifle and aggregate twice and smallbore once on the season.
Both Henry and Zych earned spots in the NCAA Championships in air rifle for the Tigers. On the year, Henry is averaging a score of 594.154, while Zych has posted a 593.077.
No. 10 Memphis will head to Morgantown, W.V. to compete in the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships from Saturday, Feb. 25 through Sunday, Feb. 26. Live targets can be found at GoTigersGo.com.
