Nov 16, 2023 | Women's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's soccer team will make its way back to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA Second Round. Eighth-ranked Memphis will face off with nineth-ranked Notre Dame on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. with coverage available on ESPN+.
Memphis (19-1) advanced to the second round of the tournament in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Track & Soccer Complex last Saturday night. The Tigers would get goals from Mya Jones and Momo Nakao – both in the 3' – for the early 2-0 lead over LSU. Despite an attempted comeback from the Tigers of Baton Rouge, Memphis would hold on for the 2-1 win.
The Tigers have had an abundance of scoring this season between Jones, Nakao, Saorla Miller and Anna Hauer. Eleven different Memphis players have scored this season while Kaylie Bierman and the defense have held their opponents to just eight goals this season and one of the country's best goal differentials.
Notre Dame (12-3-4) is coming off a 2-0 win over Valpariso where Ellie Ospeck and Charlie Codd found the back of the net in the 49' and 83'. The Fighting Irish's defense was the stars of the match, holding the Beacons to just one shot the entire match.
For the season, Maddie Mercado leads the team with eight goals while 10 other Notre Dame players have netted multiple goals. Between the pipes, Ashley Naylor and Atlee Olofson have split time for the Fighting Irish with a combined 51 saves.
Friday's match will be the first between Memphis and Notre Dame.
