No. 8 Tigers Convert Early to Advance to NCAA Second Round

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – In front of a record-breaking crowd of 2,073 fans, the University of Memphis Tiger women's soccer team earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament Second Round after defeating LSU, 2-1, on Saturday night at the Track & Soccer Complex in Memphis.
After tonight's NCAA Tournament win, the Tigers improve to 19-1 on the season and are now winners of 16-straight games dating back to August 31.

KEY MOMENTS
- Memphis struck early to take a 1-0 lead in the 3' when Finley Lavin played a ball down the line to Saorla Miller who found the feet of Mya Jones for the strike.
- Just 20 seconds later, Momo Nakao put the Tigers up 2-0 with a high-soaring strike to the upper right corner, sending the sell-out crowd into a frenzy.
- Tiger goalkeeper Kaylie Bierman picked up her first save of the night in the 19' after she speared a rocket in the lower-right corner from LSU's Mollie Baker.
- Honoka Hamano nearly scored a third Memphis goal in the 42', but her shot rolled just wide of the net.
- LSU got on the board in the 70' following a goal by Ava Galligan.
- Memphis recorded shots from Nakao, Miller and Anna Hauer in the second half to challenge the LSU defense.

- Jones netted her 11th goal of the season and Nakao picked up her sixth.
- Bierman made one save in route to her 17th win of the season – tying her with Elizabeth Moberg for victories in a single season.
- The Memphis defense held LSU to just two shots the entire match while winning the battle in corner kicks (7-2) and shots (13-2).
- Tonight's win marks the third-consecutive season Memphis will be playing in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
- Memphis will take on third-seeded Notre Dame in Fayetteville, Ark., in the Second Round. Game information will be released at a later date.
